Message-ID: <5AA5C50C-0BCC-46C2-825A-1E41892B7627@arsaperta.com> Hello, Perhaps it is a bit too early to post this kind of thing (or perhaps did I already miss something :-) ) but I would like to "open the works" or at least share some thoughts with the members of this list. CCF is supposedly a common copyright platform, dealing with the authors and contributors of open standards developed by or in partnership with Digistan. So here are some preliminary thoughts about our "roadmap" for CCF: 1) we need to define the copyright stewardship mode. That means defining to what extent the "intellectual property" of the contributors will be bound by our framework, at what moment they "submit" their copyright, etc. Also, are we contemplating "joing copyright" or pure "copyright pledge" (Digistan ulitmately owning all the rights and has the authors pledge definitive patent agreements). 2) very logically, we need to define our IP mode. By IP mode I do expect that we will only have one, RF (Royaltee-Free), but we can think of others, were it only to accomodate some requests or to manage some standards that could become RF and whose IPR shall be transitioned. 3) Pay attention to patents. It's obvious in 1 and 2 but we're never too cautious on this. 4) define the license of the specification documents. In terms of standards, having the right to modify the spec brings no or few advantage. Since a spec is not software but a mere document, the licenses have either been classical (copyright + commercial distribution ? la ISO) or like OASIS, copyright but free distribution as it is. We might want to investigate this question further. This also asks the question of when does the standard development stop. Creative Commons? GFDL? Other? Comments welcome, Charles-H. Andy has been using the public list to discuss and probably that's a good place to start. It'll help those who have just joined to get involved in something. -Pieter
